Welcome to Espresso Shots. Here you can read and enjoy new stories, discover new writers, write comments - and write and submit your own stories.

Reading writing on a screen makes you read in a rush, so you can print off the Shots you like most and read them more slowly later, with a coffee or in bed.

You can tighten and loosen and play with your own writing until the tension is right.

Most of my pieces posted here I wrote in cafes with a cappuccino or mocha on the table and music and people speaking around me. I started with a crossword clue as the first line, or something I heard, writing casually and spontaneously and about anything I wanted.

You may already write like this; or you can try it now with your own idea or one of the exercises on the site. You can write for 5 minutes now, starting by writing the line
The train stopped at the station
and writing anything you like. Keep writng - loosely and enjoyably, and following any changes of subject, and only coming back to write about your original idea as much or as little as feels right.
